Landmark and Legend
Memphis, TN
Here we note legends-in-their-own-time and landmarks as they transition into history

Imperial Bowling Lanes
Imperial Bowling Lanes opened in 1958 at 4700 Summer Avenue in Memphis as a first class recreation center. It featured 48 bowling alleys, a full service restaurant and was open 24 hours a day.  No doubt a lot of people have fond memories of friends and fun at the bowling alley. Changing recreational tastes and modern bowling facilities led to the closure of Imperial in 2009. Other than a few private parties and a flea market on the site the property mostly remained unused after the bowling ended. There were a few efforts to convert the building into a retail center but those plans never materialized. The building was demolished in January, 2017. A Planet Fitness exercise club is to be built on the property.
